Best Places to Watch the Sunset in American Fork

American Fork sits in a sweet spot for sunset watching, with Utah Lake spreading west and the Wasatch Range rising east. Locals who know the trusted massage therapy also tend to know where to be when the light starts to shift, and the spread of sunset spots in town runs from lakeside flats to mountain overlooks. The five locations below are all within a 30-minute drive of the city center, and each one catches the evening light a little differently.

American Fork Marina

A short drive south on 100 W brings you to the American Fork Marina at 1730 S 100 W, right on the edge of Utah Lake. The marina was recently rebuilt with a new playground, picnic tables, fire pits, and a paved parking lot, and the open western horizon over the water gives you a clean line of sight for the sunset. Walk-ins and bike-ins are free, and the beach area is a popular spot for families winding down the day. Bring bug spray in summer.

Highland Glen Park

About 10 minutes north in Highland at 4800 Knight Ave, Highland Glen Park wraps around a small pond with three fishing docks, paved walking paths, and grass that catches the last bit of light. The pond reflects the sky as the sun drops behind the western mountains, which makes for one of the more photogenic sunsets in the area. Sand volleyball, picnic tables, and grills are on site if you want to stretch the evening into dinner.

Mount Timpanogos Park (Orem)

About 25 minutes south at the mouth of Provo Canyon, Mount Timpanogos Park sits beneath the peak of the same name. The park has open lawns, picnic pavilions, and direct access to the Provo River. Evening light hits the canyon walls just before sundown, and the river noise makes it feel further from town than it is. Free yoga has been running in the park on Sundays through the warmer months, which pairs well with staying for the sunset after.

Sunset Beach Park (Vineyard)

About 15 minutes south in Vineyard at 385 N 300 W, Sunset Beach Park is tucked inside the Waters Edge community with a walking path along Utah Lake. The name is earned. The lake views look west toward the Oquirrh Mountains, and the open sky gives you the full color shift as the sun drops. There's a sand play area and a small playground as well, so it works for an early dinner with kids before sunset itself.

Canyon Hills Lookout (Lehi)

For a short walk to an elevated view, head about 15 minutes northwest to Canyon Hills Lookout in Lehi. The trail is short and easy enough for kids, and it ends at an orange bench that looks out over Utah Lake and a good stretch of the valley. The drive in winds through quiet hill roads. Parking is small, so arriving early on weekends helps. The vantage point catches both the lake reflection and the sky color at sundown.

Body Balance Massage and Float

After a long evening outside, the body usually has something to say about it. Body Balance Massage and Float in American Fork at 366 S 500 E St, Suite B, offers therapeutic massage and open-pool float therapy that fit well with active Utah County weekends. Their therapists work the tight calves, shoulders, and lower backs that build up from canyon hikes, lake days, and long sits in the car. The $10/month membership has no contract and brings 50-minute massages to $72 and 60-minute floats to $40.
